Summery: It's the first full moon since Jason was bitten by the werepanthers, and she doesn't know how he is going to handle it. Calvin Norris comes to watch over him and help him, and Jason ends up loving what he turns in to, a half man/half panther animal. Sam is shot, and must recuperate, and cannot run the bar, so he asks Sookie to go to Fangtasia to ask Eric to lend a bartender while he is out. Eric sends their new bartender, Charles Twining, who is very nice to Sookie. Calvin Norris is also shot and seriously wounded, and Sookie learns that other shifters and were animals are being shot throughout Louisianna. Calvin suspects Jason. Known for dispensing their own kind of justice, the real shooter needs to be found before the were panthers turn on Jason. Colonel Flood, leader of the Long Tooth pack, is also killed (supposedly an accident), and Alcide brings Sookie to the funeral as his date. The quest for new packleader begins, its either Alcides dad, or Patrick Furnam. Alcide hopes Sookie's telepathic abilities will give him an advantage. Bill begins to date Selah Pumphrey. Sookie is also shot while leaving the library because though she isn't a shifter, she cares for them. She discovers that her bullet matches the bullets of all the other who were killed, except Sam's. Later, Sookie is in an alley with Sam (as a dog) trying to find the killer when Sweetie Des Arts, Merlotte's cook, comes at her with a gun. She explains that she is part shifter, and kills any shifter she comes in contact with. She shoot Tray Dawson, a werewolf who was sent to Protect Sookie by Calvin Norris (who wishes he and Sookie could be together), but is then killed by Andy Bellefleur, who is a believer in Sookie's talent, and realizes there are other supes out there. Sookie claims she has relations with Tray, and takes him to get taken care of. Back at the Bar, she realizes that someone keeps calling over and over, and Charles tells her is a prank call. Bubba shows up at the back door telling her it was Eric calling and that "he's a hit man, he isnt what he seems". Then she has a fight with Charles Twining. He was sent by Hot Rain to hurt Eric. Eric had killed Long Shadow, and Hot Rain felt that what Eric had paid him was not enough, and that he wanted to take something Eric held dear. Twining was the one that shot Sam, knowing that Sookie would come looking for a fill in. Previously, someone burned down most of Sookie's house, and she was saved yet again by her fairy godmother. A dead man is found outside her hosue, covered by gasoline, with a FotS card in his wallet. He was planted there by Twining in an attempt for her life. Also, Tara Thorton has been dumped by vampire Franklin Mott, whom she dated in Club Dead, and is now under the control of the very scary Mickey. She is given to Mickey as part of a debt payment. Sookie appeals to Eric and has him remove Mickey from Tara. Mickey is angered and brings Tara (completely beat up) to Sookies apartment and forces himself to be invited in. He wounds Eric, who drinks Sookies blood, and is attacking Sookie when she rescinds his invitation. He is forced out and is forced back to his maker. Eric stays with Sookie and is sweet. The competition takes place and there are different rounds to test the werewolves strengths. During the second test, where they must hold silver poles in their mouths, Sookie discovers that Patrick is cheating. She tells everyone, and they must decide what to do. The decision is that the final test will determine packmaster, and it is a fight to the death. Alcide's father is killed, and Patrick is declared packmaster, and has sex with a young were to ensure the pack goes on. Patrick also attacks Sookie before the fight, and she scrapes her leg on the metal cage. The coordinator of the whole event, Quinn, doctors her wounds, and she can tell he is a were that turns into something huge.
